Illustration Friday - "Tea" (better late than never)

Here's this week's Illustration Friday entry. This is a coffee themed pieces of 3D/collage art I did lst year for a small cafe we used to have at my job. If it didn't have coffee beans glued onto it and the word coffee written on it, I'm sure it could pass as tea themed. It's a shadow box paints with acrylics, and embellished with various crafty bits and food items.

Happy Birthday to ME! :-)

I'm officially 27 years old as of Friday, Feb. 24.

I'm one of those people that will admit to loving their birthday. I think it's a special day to do something fun and just celebrate. If I had a choice, I would normally take my birthday as a vacation day. Due to a big project at work I've been kept mighty busy, but I still managed to enjoy myself by having lunch with my mom and one of my friends at Macaroni Grill, and then having dinner with my mom and my boyfriend.

Speaking of my boyfriend, he spoiled me again this year. I joined a bowling league not too long ago and have wanted my own ball for a while now. He got me the most perfect flaming ball and matching bag. (real pics to come soon) He also knew I was under a bit of stress from the above mentioned work project and went out and bought me a case of one of my absolute favorite German beers, Warsteiner! Yum.....

My mom got me the complete collection fo Rachel Ray cookbooks. I love her easy-to-make recipes. Time saving is a huge blessing when you work full-time and having normal-flavored things to make is good too, since I live with the world's pickiest eater over the age of 8.

More on the birthday fun later. Right now, work calls.

I <3 my Dishwasher

As a kid I never liked doing the dishes – the scraping, scrubbing and pruning of your hands got on my nerves. Thankfully, I was blessed by the dishwasher fairy and my first apartment after college had a dishwasher. The darn thing got me hooked to these magical appliances for life.

I can remember a show on the Food Network called Surreal Gourmet. (Yes, I am addicted to the Food Network – It’s a topic for another time I am sure) In one episode, the mop-topped chef cooked salmon in someone’s dishwasher. I swear the one in my house could cook salmon, bake a cake and fry eggs all in one cycle! The dishes come out so warm, you almost want to snuggle them like fresh towels from the clothes dryer on a cold day. Mmmmmmmm……

Soapy shower thoughts

Someone needs to invent a way to blog in the shower. I’m far wittier with soap in my ears and water pouring down on me. They say people get their best ideas in the shower and I tend to agree – I get my best writing ideas and snarky comments then, too. So many thoughts of what I want to say and share come bubbling out, it's ridiculous!

I’m either going to have to buy some of those kiddie soap crayons and write notes to myself on the shower curtain or someone really needs to invent a waterproof memo recorder or laptop – is that too much to ask? Oi…

The fat girl is melting...

At work I sit in a small little loft area with three other people. It's a former storage area-turned office space. We've tried to jazz it up a bit with some cool furnishings and cube decorations and it's an ok place to sit (there are worse places). The problem with the space is that it has sound and ventilation issues - you can hear everything anyone else says or does and it's always either freezing or sweltering.

As a person of substance, I'm aware that I have a slightly smaller tolerance to heat than say, your average pixie or toothpick girl. Today that tolerance is being tested and destroyed by the fact that someone cranked the heat in our little area up to 85 degreees! 85 degrees?!! I think you can cook bacon and make cookies at that temperature. Even my grandmother, who is prone to being cold, would think 85 degrees was a bit much.

It was freezing outside today and for once I tried to be an adult and dressed for the weather. So, I'm sweating into a little flip-flopless puddle in my jeans, big wooly sweater and tennis shoes WITH SOCKS.

If it doesn't cool down up here soon (I turned the thermostat down to 60 - skinny people can layer, but no one wants to see the fat chick stripping down to her skivvies) I am so stuffing ice down my bra!

ARGH!

My first Illustration Friday - "Chair"

Here's my first Illustration Friday entry, "Chair." I am a totally not an artist - I'm a crafter (big difference) so participating in this should be fun and interesting. Please don't laugh too much!
